ICE CRACKLE PREAMP

Generally speaking, it is difficult to get a great distortion sound from conventional distortion pedal that will exceed the distortion from a tube amp.  There are a lot of high gain pedals out there; however it is very common to experience a very compressed tone when you turn up the gain control on the pedal.  As a result of this, you lose the dynamic and essence of your desired distortion sound from most of the high gain pedals on the market.  This issue is also the fundamental “drive” (pun intended) that motivate us to come up with a product with unique design to overcome the limit of a regular pedal.  The concept is to create a “tone-station” in a compact size which is capable to produce great “three dimensional” resonance that we are familiar with tube driven amps.

After spending years on research and numerous trials in testing we have finally achieved and successfully developed this tone-station from our concept, the EGO TM2 (Time Machine Overdrive) – Ice Crackle Preamp Station.

Each Ice Crackle unit is hand built with highest quality components available.  The circuit and layout were also designed to provide widest range of tone control to ensure its versatility that can assist every guitar player to dial in any settings they want for their desired sound.

Apart from the eye catching appearance and flexible adjustments, the most distinctive feature of Ice Crackle Preamp Station is the incorporation of direct-heated subminiature tubes that were used in the missile system on the fighter jets of Air-Force.  These tubes provide excellent articulation and clarification from playing with incredible dynamic that gives you the killer tone you have been looking for.

Each unit comes with two gain models.  The LOW GAIN (Vintage British style crunch) and HIGH GAIN (Modern High Gain – Few different models to choose from, based on XTC, AFD, HERBERT, Powerball….etc. Please make your enquiry through our authorized dealer for availability).  Both GAIN models have their own row of EQs (Please refer to the Upper and Lower control layout as shown by the picture on the first page) for different settings.

  • Foot-switch: (on/bypass) Please note, even in bypass mode, all the effects feed through the FX-Loop of this pedal are still being engaged.
  • Volume: Control the level of loudness
  • Presence: Control the balance between the upper High frequency and bottom of the LOW frequency. From a 12 o’clock position, the tone will become brighter and wider when switch to the right but smoother and tighter when switch to the left.
  • Treble: Control the overall performance of the EQ setting. From a 12 o’clock position, the Mid and High frequency will sound more prominent when switch to the right.  Conversely, the lower Mid and bottom Low frequency will sound more prominent when switch to the left.
  • Scoop: Control the Mid frequency of the EQ setting
  • Gain: Adjust the level of distortion.
  • Bright Switch: Make your tone brighter (flick the switch UP for adding more brightness, switch to the middle to turn this function off, or switch to the DOWN position for adding more subtle brightness). The difference is more noticeable when the Gain is tuned to a lower level.
  • Fat Switch: Adjust your Mid frequency to be more prominent. (Flick between three positions for different settings, Up position-More Mid, Central position-Off, Down Position-for adding more subtle Mid frequency).
  • Deep: To add in the amount of LOW frequency. It is recommended to switch this OFF ( the central position ) when connecting this pedal to the POWER Amp section of your amp. When the pedal is being used and connected through the input of your amp, you can use this Deep switch to adjust your desired LOW frequency (Up-position for more, Down-position for less) that works in conjunction with your amp’s PRE AMP section.
  • Fx Loop: For adding your Modulation effects without colouring your tone.
  • Power: Please use 24v DC power supply for optimal performance of this Pre-Amp pedal.
